It is fair to say that general health and wellbeing is something that everybody aims for. Why would you WANT to feel unwell and unhealthy? For some, their health takes top priority and others tend to neglect their health and wellbeing. There are a lot of reasons why people either REALLY make the effort to stay in peak form, and reasons why people tend to forget abut their health. Let’s say you are a professional sportsperson – obviously, your body is your instrument, your money maker so to speak and taking the upmost care for your body is VERY important.

Then there are those people that may unknowingly neglect their body, or those that think they are doing the right thing by their bodies but are in actual fact possibly doing more harm than good. All the time you will hear in women’s health or mens’ health magazines about people that are trying to get in shape and lose weight, with the common goal to help increase their health. Naturally, a lot of people look at fast tracking this process or finding something that can help the process – like health supplements. But is this the best way to improve one’s health?

What are the Benefits of Good General Health?

There is no doubt that there are many advantages of having good general health. Just think for a second – if you are healthy, you can enjoy life. You can get out there and have fun, knowing that there are no physical or emotional barriers holding you back. If you feel good about yourself, it radiates and people will be able to see it – making them happy too. Being happy and healthy usually also means that you will save money on having to go and see the doctor or dentist etc. Having good general health can also significantly reduce the chances of getting heart disease or diabetes. Less money spent at the doctor surgery, means more money for you to do whatever it is that you enjoy doing.

Why Healthier Foods lead to a Healthier Life

Without a doubt, two of the most essential things that you should be eating are vegetables and fruits. If you are looking for more fibre, vitamins and minerals (you know… all the GOOD stuff) in your diet, fruit and vegetables are a GREAT source. Just don’t cover them in creamy sauces and undo all of that good work. Don’t forget to include dairy, protein, whole grains and a little bit of fat into your diet. They are all required for a balanced diet, but it’s important to find the right balance. Don’t forget to drink water. As silly as it sounds and as many times as you have heard it – do you drink the recommended daily intake? You need to ensure that your body remains hydrated and a lot of professionals recommend that we should be drinking at least eight glasses (or to litres) of water each day.

Don't Forget Exercise!

Eating a balanced diet will help you achieve better health, but don’t forget to do regular exercise. Exercise is VITAL to good general health. Not only does regular exercise help to reduce stress, it also helps to improve circulation and strength. A lot of people that try to make the change in lifestyle can sometimes rob themselves. One can change their eating habits, take a few different health supplements and think that they are healthy. While this is true to an extent – don’t underestimate the power of exercise.

Do Health Supplements REALLY Help?

There is no denying that some of the health supplements available on the market could help you achieve your health goals, but some health supplements could also be very bad for you and your general health in the long run – especially if they have not been adequately tested and analysed. You will often see ads for health supplements in both women’s health and mens’ health magazines or websites. Before starting a course of multi-vitamins or specific type of supplement, you should be doing a bit of research or speaking to your doctor about the safeness of the supplement.
