What is Tiredness?
It’s surprising how many people don’t realise how much of an impact tiredness can have on their lives. When you’re constantly pushing yourself to get things done, you can quickly get run down and in a lot of cases that can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. Chronic fatigue syndrome is characterised by tiredness symptoms such as extreme exhaustion and weakness. Other symptoms include neurological problems, difficulty sleeping, pains, a rise in heart rate and/or drop in blood pressure when standing, nausea, palpitations, shortness of breath, twitching and/or tingling of muscles, allergies, sensitivity to light, sound, noise, odours, medication and/or tastes, gastrointestinal problems, extreme weight loss or gain, flu-like feelings and an inability to cope with extreme temperature changes.
Who is at Risk?
Anybody can suffer from tiredness, from feeling physically weak to having a tiredness headache. There is no age limit, it’s not just busy professionals or parents in their 30s who suffer, anyone from children to the elderly can experience some form of fatigue. Of course, you are at higher risk if you don’t take care of yourself properly: in imbalanced diet, lack of sleep and high levels of physical and/or emotional stress can all be major contributions to tiredness. It’s important that you pay close attention to your lifestyle and try to make changes to prevent the onset of chronic fatigue syndrome because once you have it, it can take years to fully recover, if at all. While some people can work their way back to full health over a long period of time, some people never quite get over it, others suffer from relapses and others get worse still.
Managing Tiredness
The first thing you need to do to manage your tiredness is to take control. More often than not, people feel tired because they’re running around trying to meet expectations, either of others or of themselves. Take a step back and assess your life. If you saw one of your friends or loved ones living the way you do, would you be happy or would you step in to help them? Step in and help yourself. Put things into perspective and set yourself realistic goals. Make a concerted effort to breath slowly and deeply, increasing the amount of oxygen that reaches your brain. Similarly, step back and take an objective look at the things that stress you. What you think is a tiredness headache may just be your body reacting to a particular situation that makes you feel either physically or emotionally stressed. Try to find a way to solve the cause of your stress, or look at it in a way that makes it more manageable, for example as a greater good or as a means for attaining one of your goals. Some people have also reported that meditation works wonders for their tiredness symptoms. They find that when they reach a certain level of meditation they are able to relax and restore energy effectively. This is particularly true for people who have difficulty sleeping. Of course, one should also be directed to not only see their doctor but also by visiting their local health products retailer to speak to an alternative medicine practitioner.
Complications Tiredness can Cause
Certainly the worst complication of tiredness symptoms is the impact it has on your quality of life. It’s hard to maintain relationships when you’re constantly tired and don’t have the energy to leave home, much less keep up with your friends and their active lifestyles. Health complications that you have as a result of extreme tiredness are manageable, but draining and it can be hard to keep going if you don’t have people around to support you. Make sure your friends understand what is happening to you and that it is a real condition.
